What is motivation?

1 8 09 insights anniversary celebration 043 What is motivation? For those of you who were in the meeting this morning, Thank You!! Motivation often appears to be an outside thing. It seems to come from external sources, but it doesn’t. Outside sources may influence our attitudes and perspectives on life but the motivation must come from inside. It is an inside job!
Motivation is truly multi dimensional. We must remember to include our mind, body, and our spirit in our endeavers to be motivated. If we integrate all three with a balanced approach, we will be able to maintain tremendous results. If we focus on only 2 of the 3 the system eventually falls apart.
1) Mind- put it in its place. We often lead with our mind, and it ends up getting in the way. We are MENTAL!!!!!!
2)Body – Love what is!! You are perfection in any moment. Treat your body with respect and honor it right where it is at! It is the only one you will ever have so you better start loving it as it is. Once you love it as it is, You can start making changes to it as needed, but not before(not lasting changes anyway).
3)Spirit – This is your essence!!! Your passion!!! Your flame!!! Seek out the thing that makes you happy, no matter what it is. Remember the question, “what would you do if no one  got paid anymore for their work?”. Would you stay right where you are at? We (Insights Group) have some great exercises and tools to help you tune into these things. We don’t really advertise them as a service we provide but they are awesome things. Find your Passion and live into it!!!!!!

The three prong approach to motivation is a home run!!

Who talked to the mirror this afternoon? Did you feel silly? Did you laugh?  Your face is the only one you’ll ever have so LOVE it!!!! PRACTICE Loving it!!! I look forward to each of you returning next tuesday and while you are at it, bring a guest!!!!

Radio Talk Show

Last May (2008) we had an opportunity to do an online radio interview with Kathy Eubanks via telephone. It was a pretty cool experience. Has anyone ever been interviewed for a show? Answering questions and sounding like you know what you are talking about can be a bit intimidating when you are on the spot. As a follow up to the radio interview, at our InSights Toastmasters meeting we tried an interview format for table topics. It was a new experience for most of the members at the meeting. We think differently when we are generating our own thoughts as opposed to answering someone else’s questions.

I’d like to as you, if someone were to interview you about your business, what questions would you like them to ask? What is the most important thing that someone know about your business? What is something you would like another business person to answer? How can we utilize the power of the interview, and perhaps add some content to our blogs? Consider how you could get your message across, and create new opportunity through this type of publicity?

Of course, for your listening enjoyment:

What is relevance?

Sandy just posted a blog in which she is questioning what material is appropriate to discuss. What do blog followers want to read? What is relevance? The reality is that all things are relevant to someone. Just because the reader may not find value in the topic at that moment , it doesn’t mean that it is less relevant.I guess what I’d like to know is what specific topics would you like us to cover? How can our blog add value to your business bottom line? We have some amazing forums of people at the  Insights Group and can harness the knowledge and experience of many people. Let us go to work for you!

Are we born with a purpose?

If you are like most people in our society, you have been cloaked with the idea that we each have a specific purpose for our lives. It almost seems that the universe would have a scribe sitting in front of a computer 24 hours a day typing in profiles and filling roles for each human born. When put in this context, to me, it seems crazy.
I think that we develop an interest in something if we go and seek it. Once found we develop a purpose, a thing that gives us value, and as a result our purpose comes to light. I do realize that this is probably not the most popular approach to life and may appear to be contrary to most world religions, but it is not.  Most religions believe that we are given the free will choice to make decisions. These decisions include choosing interests, hobbies, passions, etc. Often times they don’t appear to be choices but they are. We are the products of our environments including but not limited to heredity, social status , oppurtunities , race, sex, upbringings, etc. These environmental pressures develop us into the person we are at the point we choose our purpose. Once we realize that we can control how our experiences create our worlds, we can conciously chose to live the way we want. If you surrender to the universe and let go of the appearance of control over your life, you will find a purpose that has a joy and freshness like no other. Does anyone have an example of the development of a purpose that just sort of happened? I’d love to hear some examples!!!!   Al

What does culture have to do with it?

Oh, just about everything. Think about it. The culture that a company maintains is just as important as everything else that they do. What is the culture of the company you work for, whether it’s a large company, or just yourself. Is the focus fun and personal growth, or is it bottom lines and profits? Here’s a cool glimpse of corporate culture

What is your culture? Are you living up to your potential? What changes could you or should you make in your life to create a culture that sings to you? Or, are you already living it?

If you are familiar with the InSights Group, how would you describe our culture? I’ll start with Free Hugs.

Who else feels pressure when writing a blog post?

I have been blogging a bit about InSights through blogger and have a few posts up. We are transitioning our website main page to the blog format, and this is my first opportunity to post in the new blog. Talk about pressure! What do I say? What should I write? I’ve been busy this morning looking on the internet for what to write about. As the blog starts growing and I have days and days of posts, the pressure won’t feel so much like I have to be interesting and impactful with every post.

I’ve been working with local small business owners to set up their blogs, with awesome results. Many of the blogs being set up are interesting, relevant, and on target. I enjoy reading the posts, especially some health related information in Kathy’s Blog. So now, the teacher becomes the student, as I work on what to include in this blog. Interesting? Funny? Recap of the days events? Helpful and useful tips and tricks? Ideas and Opinions? Watch for all this and more (I hope) as you follow the InSights Group’s blog.

Thanks for taking a peek!
