Foursquare will quite possibly be the next big social media site.
The purpose of foursquare is to check in so your friends know what you are up to. There is an app for the smartphone, you pull out your phone, check your location, add a comment or shout out if you’d like, and then share with your foursquare friends, and can push the check-in to twitter and facebook as well.
This is great for users who have a storefront. You can create a check in location, and leave a tip for users when they come to your spot. Go a step further and create a countertop sign that will alert customers that you are a foursquare hot spot. You may want to educate some people if they haven’t heard about it just yet. Users can also create their own listings for your location, so it makes sense for you to create it first. You can also create a special incentive for the “mayor” of your location. That would be the person with the most check-ins. Have a contest to see who becomes mayor, and have your clients recommend what the perk should be. Ice cream shops have been known to throw in an extra scoop for the mayor and coffee hotspots will give a free cup of the users favorite. Be creative, and engage!
So what happens when you get too tired to check in? Think automatic check in, but beware! As this article points out, if you are too tired to check in, maybe we are tired of hearing about it.
