A great idea for Facebook sharing in 2012

It’s one of the easiest things to do on Facebook – hitting the like button and then the share button on content that we find interesting…it’s also got us passing around bunches and bunches of photos. From fun to funny, serious and profound, it’s a simple way to share a sentiment, be social, and significant all at the same time.

If you visit the Managing Thought Facebook Page from now into the new year, you’ll see even more photos to share. Mary J. Lore is the author of the book Managing Thought which is a wonderful book (InSights recommended). So many of Mary’s thoughts that are little gems of wisdom and gentle reminders of what we already know. She’ll be releasing these in combination with photos on her page to add a little bit of insight into your day and a chance to practice managing your thoughts.

Since I’m on Facebook so much, I’ll tell you I’m pretty excited to have a place to go when the newsfeed seems a bit slow and I’m looking for the perfect quote or sentiment of the day to share.

Hmmm, perhaps you have a message to share in a similar way on your pages?

I have this crazy feeling that with all the FB timeline changes and new things in store for 2012 some people might benefit from a “Whoa – what happens now with Facebook timeline and how can I be sure to put my best foot forward for my personal and business use”…class/seminar/webinar. InSights will do a few free seminars in Jan/Feb. If you are interested let’s chat – you find a space and we’ll come in to share..no purchase necessary. Just paying it forward in a very abundant universe!

Google+, what?

Think multiple person skype chats, stumbleupon, facebook and youtube – in one. Hangout virtually with friends or collegues, (or hold a conference with people out of town), search and read things that you or your company are interested in, connect with people and share your videos and photos effortlessly. Although Google+ isn’t open to the public yet, it seems like it might be something to watch out for. If you like social media and believe it’s here to stay, keep your eyes open and your google search bar open!

Quick Tip: Social Media based connections

If you have the opportunity to build yourself a fantastic social media sphere, from time to time your contacts will come looking for your connection to someone. This happens in the case of referrals between friends for contractors, home improvement, lawn care and more. It also happens, even more effectively in the business world. Here’s a quick tip that I use when I get the request to make connections. I use Facebook to write a short post person 1 meet person 2. Here’s why I am connecting you…
It’s quick, it’s easy, and it saves an email.

Just another way that social media really is such a time saver!

Gastropub Meets Sports Bar and Goes Boom in Brighton

boomtown01 300x200 Gastropub Meets Sports Bar and Goes Boom in Brighton(March 31, 2011) – Cool, trendy upscale dining or good times sports bar? Casual Sunday afternoon place to watch the game or great place to celebrate with the girls? Local restaurateur Craig Heath said “why not both?” Partnering with Executive Chef David Starzyk, they created Boomtown Kitchen + Tap in Brighton, and the boom began.

“I saw a huge need for an alternative to both traditional fine dining and the casual, laid back sports bar,” explains Boomtown owner Craig Heath. “Something of a hybrid, that offers the friendliness of a sports bar with a sophisticated, hip environment, serving up some really good food.”

“The idea for the casual and cool vibe behind Boomtown comes from the ‘gastro pub’ concept making waves in foodie cities like New York and Chicago,” Heath explains. Rather than a full formal dinner, patrons gather with friends and order a selection of goodies from the Pub Fare menu. Sharing a plate of the savory deviled eggs or passing the platter of old-school marinated olives lends itself to sharing, engaging conversation and good times.

Traditionalists need not worry; Boomtown now offers a full dinner menu too, and the rotisserie chicken continues to be a favorite for both the taste buds and the eyes, as patrons can glimpse the little darlings on their spikes behind the window in the lobby area.

In creating the décor, the challenge was how to manifest the upscale, sophisticated setting, all the while incorporating 19 HDTVs into the landscape without overpowering the lounge-like vibe. Somehow it works. If you are there to watch the game, you’ll have no problem. If you’d rather pay attention to the people at your table, or go tete-a-tete on that first date, you may never even notice the TVs are on.

The Boomtown concept is poised to move beyond the Brighton area, as Heath and Starzyk are working on a franchise concept for other cities. Is Boomtown the next big thing? For the local restaurant scene in Brighton, it certainly has added a new dimension to the usual choices on the dining scene.

###

Boomtown Kitchen + Tap is located at 9675 Village Place Blvd, Brighton, in the Green Oaks outdoor mall. Visit the website at www.boomtownkitchen.com or call 810.844.0877 for more information.

BoomTown is serving it’s patrons onsite, and via social media efforts on Facebook where users can like the page for daily deals, specials, and offers. They are also utilizing online sites such as Open Table Reservations.

How to use Facebook Friend Lists to your advantage

icon facebook How to use Facebook Friend Lists to your advantageSo everyone you know is on Facebook. Maybe, like me, you want a way to keep track of different groups. Some of your connections may be business, others may be personal. How can you use one platform, keep everyone organized and follow what is going on? Friend lists are your answer.

The Friend list feature on Facebook is one of the best tools you can utilize to organize your “peeps”. They allow you to categorize your friends for organization, and to make managing access and messaging easier. The best place to start is to group your contacts into different categories. *Hint, once you do this, you can limit certain people’s access to specific sections of your Facebook profile. This can be of great value if you are in the business vs. personal dilemma.

You might be thinking that you can achieve the same separation of your messages by creating two different FaceBook profiles. This isn’t recommended. For one, it’s against Facebook’s stated rules, and if you create duplicate accounts, you could be disabled. The second reason is that it takes enough time, effort and energy to keep up with one profile, let alone two…so where will you find the time? My advice is to use one platform, and one account. Just figure out how to make it work for you.

So, even if you could create multiple profiles, you will still have to come to some type of organizational plan. Let’s just stick to one account, and set up a friends list so you can be more efficient. By doing this, you can allow certain people to see your newsfeed status, and limit the people who see that you are available in Facebook chat.

Here’s how to set up lists:
1. Click on the “Account” item on the top right of the main FaceBook page.
2. Click on the “Edit Friends” option.
3. Select the “Create A List” option.
4. Assign a name to your list. (No one other than you will see the name of this list)
5. Add friends to the list.

You can create as many lists as you’d like. You can organize friends according to geography, region or location. You can also set up a list for clients, customers, suppliers and more.

To utilize the lists you should head to your Facebook Home page, and use the filter up at the top by clicking the arrow next to the “Most Recent” tab, and choose which feeds from which lists you would like to look at. You can also identify which list gets to see your status updates.

To identify who can see the status updates, Click on the blue arrow beside the “Share” button and click the “customize” option, and you will be able to block certain lists from seeing your updates. Finally, you will also be able to perform the same filtering functions in FaceBook chat.
