Social Media FAQ: Web Strategy

In your opinion, which is the better strategy? (1) put a LOT of information in your site about your business, OR (2) put a minimal amount of information to entice people to contact you to learn more?

Social Media FAQ: Web StrategyAnswer: Give a lot of info, so the person is making an informed choice when s/he takes the next step by calling.

Counterpoint: People are at your site to solve their problem, not learn about you. Go minimal. Articulate your solution concisely. Offer a “dig deeper” section if you must, but don’t overwhelm. You have 2.3 seconds to retain your average web visitor!

Both of the above answers are perfectly valid for a website.

If you are not sure which will work better for you, consult with a strategist. They can help.

What’s the better choice of social media sites to spend my time on?

Whats the better choice of social media sites to spend my time on?It depends on where your customers are. Each social media platform has it’s strongest attributes, and it attracts people who enjoy the interface. If you are dealing with B2B contacts, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are great. They will each let you interface with your customer as well.

If you start your social media strategy on a blog platform, (we recommend wordpress), you can hit publish and automate your posts to all of your social media sites. You can choose to spend time interacting on the ones you like, and still have your message in front of the people who like each of the sites.

You can also find out some information about the demographics of each of the sites. What is the age of the average user? Using the Facebook ads system you can find how how many men vs women are within a radius of a zipcode and craft messages specifically to those users. It would make sense to create a strategy, considering who your target customer is, and who the bridges to those customers will be. That can help you determine what sites may need some more of your attention.

Who is your customer, and what is your favorite site to interact with them?

Is a social media strategy time consuming and overwhelming?

Social media can be overwhelming. There are thousands of social media sites that you can get involved with, but there are just a few that you really need to become very familiar with early on. We teach, at the Insights Group, to lean into the process. Pick one that makes sense for you. Learn about it. Become actively involved in it. And then from there, build profiles on several other sites. But start small; you don’t have to change the world today, but you will impact your world by becoming involved and doing the proper things which do require that strategy.

Strategy and Philosophy…are you in the game?

We are looking forward to being a part of so many amazing presentations in January!

We have just been back into the studio recording the next set in our Social Media CD series, this time focusing on sharing our philosophies on Social Media Strategy. We have found working within social media that many large companies and corporations are trying to use social media as they have used traditional marketing methods of the past. Our goal is to help with the awareness and understanding of how to focus on a strategy, and participate in the new online conversations well rather than trying to recreate methods of days that are past.

Social Media helps to open so many doors, it’s up to you to decide which ones you would like to walk through…watch for BIG news from the InSights Group on January 8th!

The key to social media that everyone must understand is that when you set up a social media presence with a strategy in mind, what you invest will be in place for you to leverage for an indefinite period of time to come. Making sure to put the plan in place a the beginning, and checking in on your strategy for adjustments as time goes on, are the sure ways to develop a winning Social Media Plan.

The game is getting bigger, are you staying on top of the plays?
